MSUToday.msu.edu privacy policy
Michigan State University acknowledges the importance of protecting the privacy
of the users of MSUToday.msu.edu. The following privacy policy has been created
with MSUToday's users' privacy in mind, so that the web site may become a trusted
source for online news and information about MSU.
Information Collection
Users of MSUToday.msu.edu browse anonymously. However, whenever a user requests
a page from our web server, our server automatically records certain pieces
of information in what are referred to as "log files." These log files
include information such IP addresses and browser type. Our computers use the
IP to send the requested pages back to the user. The browser type data is compiled
into summaries that enable us to analyze which browsers are using the MSUToday
web site the most, and thus to help us better plan for site and page designs.
In addition, the feedback section of the web site asks for information such
as name, zip code, and email address; all of this information is voluntarily
given (or not given) by the user. We use the zip code to assess general areas
of the U.S. from which we are drawing users. We do not know what zip code
an individual user lists. The names and email addresses are used solely for
the purpose of signing up users for the e-mail lists that the users choose.
Surveys and Questionnaires
Occasionally MSUToday may post a survey or questionnaire for the purpose of
informal research meant to improve the features of the web site. User responses
to these surveys or questionnaires will always be anonymous.
Cookies
Currently, MSUToday does not use cookies. If we start using cookies, we will
be sure to post it on this page.
Email lists
Our readers may choose to sign up to be put on an email list that provides
more news information. We only gather email addresses for that purpose, and
we will not share or sell the information with any other person or organization,
as permitted by law.
